The Journey to The West tells the story of immortals and demons; The Dream of The Red Chamber discloses the affection between masters and servants, wives and concubines; The Water Margin extols the chivalries of many brave men; The Romance of The Three Kingdoms leads the reader to the battlefield. Absurdity seems to be the essence of these well-known stories, while these stories carry all the mysteries that await the readers to discover. Among the characters in each stories, there are relationships between individuals and groups, that profoundly influenced each other in many ways.

In the Journey to The West, each character has its own role and status. How much influence does each of them have on their relationship? Characters, status, power, these are some of the main factors that will be discussed in this course. Beside these relation factors, what are the skills each character use in their interaction with a group? Any cooperation or competition, harmony or conflicts occurs in their relationship within a group? Facing these phenomena, what are the possibilities of interpretations and reactions for these characters? How do they shape a group¡¦s genre, group traits, and have an impact on a group¡¦s development?

Group politics plays an important role in its pluralistic context, and also has its complexity when dealing the direct-related and indirect-related subjects. Anyone who ever wants to make the status quo better, mastering the maximum self-determination, and enjoys the freedom, one must be skilled in utilizing all kinds of resources, e.g. Profession Rights, Reward Rights, Punishment Rights, Reference Rights, Legalization Rights, and one must also equipped with the knowledge of the skills that influences the change of power, e.g. League Establishing, Control and Decision making.

¡§The Journey to The West and Social Politics,¡¨ this course will be discussing the following issues:
1. Individual, Group, Paradigm of Character and Status: Both individual and group have deeply affected the freedom and security, and the interactive relationship, through different individual characteristics, group traits, and also through the paradigm of character and status.
2. Individual and Collective Rights: Contrary to a highly organized group, a loosely organized group may not have a clear status division, while there are still many usable types of power, resources, and skills. On the other hand, within a group, the volatility of power, the unequal distribution, and so on, stress the relation in a group.
3. Communication and Leadership: The mindset of a communicator, the self awareness, and the pattern of communicating, along with the interaction of communicating, persuading, leading, these will make the group life even more colorful.
4. Collective Decisions: Decision made in a group can have different styles and modes. Risks and attempts, collective logic and personal creativity, different context¡Ketc. makes group life dramatic.
5. Harmony and Conflicts, Competition and Cooperation: What conflicts may occur in a group? And why? How do we comment on all these conflicts, harmony, competitions and cooperation? Are there any potentials of development? These are one of the most significant factors in Group life.
6. Pressure and Encouragement: Among all the mentioned phases of group life above, people are able to feel the pressure in these contexts. How do we analyze these pressures? How do we respond to these stresses? These are also some of the greatest part in group interactions.
