Texts: You will read, discuss, and write about two books or topics: one for me and one for yourself. The topic for yourself can be either something you are interested such as book you have always wanted to read or a topic of interest which might include books, magazines or material from the internet or to help you improve your course work. For me:
Semester one: readings on music from The Book of Music (BOM) and Jazz by Ken Burns (KBJ).
Semester two: Film: A Concise History by Andrea Gronemeyer
Both texts may be supplemented with material in Chinese to aide your understanding and abilities as a translator. The Gronemeyer book has been translated and there are a number of fine books on music and jazz that are available in Chinese.

  100%Grading: Each week attendance will be taken: more than three unexcused absences will be grounds for failure. Coming late to class will be counted as half a day’s attendance. To not complete and assignment will be both a 0 for the day and an absence. 50% Weekly writing and oral presentations, 50% Final paper and oral presentation.
