三、教學目標 Objectives
Reading Module
Goal: to become effective readers of English.

Objectives: (In taking this course, I expect you to…
● develop a wide variety of reading skills.
● improve your ability and desire to read for pleasure in English.
● develop good English reading habits.
• become familiar with a wide variety of English writing.
● understand the conventions of writing assignments: structure, style formatting and honesty.
● improve your ability to respond creatively to what you read, both orally and in writing.
● increase your appreciation of written English.
● improve your overall English competence (reading, writing, listening, speaking).
● prepare yourself for English reading you will do in future classes.
Speaking Module
Objective: To become conversant in English by practicing orally on a wide variety of topics of interest in daily life.
 
Reading
Important points:
● It is important for you to share your ideas and opinions and to respect the ideas and opinions of others.
● Your questions and comments are important. There are many ways to contact me, and I will do my best to listen and help you. You can talk with me before or after class, email me or find me during office hours.
● Students are expected to report on the outside reading each week. Write your answers on your question sheet; not in your book.
● Absences: There is no penalty for 6 hours of absences (3 classes) but you will miss credit for questions not answered. This will adversely affect you score. After 6 hours, your grade will drop 10 points (e.g. 85-10=75). Coming late to class two times is the same as one absence.
● Written assignments must be typed. Each assignment must have a clear heading at the top of the page stating: your name, your student number and class number, assignment number and name, date, and a title. Your grade will be based on…
● Presentation: organization, conciseness, grammar, word choice, etc.
● Creativity: originality of ideas, writing unique to you.
● Understanding of topic: A good understanding of its ideas.
● Fulfillment of the assignment: Be sure that what you write meets the requirements of each
assignment.
► LATE PAPERS: Late on the same day -10, Next class -20, One week -30. Do not send papers by email.

Writing assignments:
• At least one page.
• Times New Roman font: 14 pt for the title, 12 pt for the text.
• 2 cm margins top, bottom, left and right.
• Double spaced.
• Print out assignment at least 24 hours before due date in case your printer fails.

Students, who do not do the outside readings, should not expect to pass regardless of test scores.
Speaking
Important Points:
Practicing in class and good attendance are essential. Vocabulary quizzes are given on a daily basis taken from the homework. STUDENTS SCORING CONSISTENTLY LOW CANNOT EXPECT A HIGH SCORE OR EVEN A PASSING SCORE!!!
